I am a Consultant at Steindle Williams with nearly 30 years of experience in criminal litigation. Throughout my career, I have represented clients facing a wide range of criminal charges in the District Court, High Court and Court of Appeal. What I have enjoyed most is guiding clients through what can be one of the most challenging times in their lives, providing practical advice, strong advocacy and a steady hand from beginning to end.
Background
I am an experienced criminal litigation lawyer and began my legal career in 1996 working as Crown prosecutor and general litigation lawyer at the Crown Solicitor’s office in Invercargill, before working as a Crown prosecutor at Meredith Connell in Auckland. After a period practicing law in the UK and Switzerland, I returned to New Zealand and worked in litigation for one of New Zealand’s largest commercial law firms.
Since 2003, I have worked in Auckland as a barrister sole, representing clients charged with a range of criminal offences in the District Court and High Court, conducting jury trials and criminal appeals against conviction and sentence in the High Court and Court of Appeal. I have worked closely in a number of homicide trials with some of New Zealand’s leading criminal trial lawyers.
I have also assisted counsel acting in high profile High Court multi-party proceedings involving allegations of inappropriate accounting by employees of a multi-national company, which ultimately resolved with a settlement prior to the trial commencing.
